BEN DISLIKES himself at times, when his voice cracks, not being able to sleep, his temper, how he manages to fuck things up a lot, his insecurities, cats, fans who throw themselves at him, the his mother and father, not getting his way, plotless things, the smell of strawberries, unicorns, horses, allergies, cats who attack him, obsessive fangirls, his impulsiveness, spending all his money in one place, writers block, being rejected, the dark, deep waters, ropes, chains, necklaces, things around his neck, cats, insecurity, flat soda, death, loss, unable to fully trust anyone, when something he does runs out, having no money, not being "pleasured", being picky, not being able to get the words out, being left out, walking away, being judged for what he cannot help, the color pink, the idea of being left alone, love songs, tye-dye, being called benji, his body and exes.
THEIR FEARS
i. being left alone. his mother left him alone a lot when he was younger. and she was a "lonely" woman as well, but always found "playmates." he hates the feeling of having no one there for him. he's even content if there is just another person in the room with him.
ii. deep waters ever since the "accidental" drowning at the age of six, benjamin hasn't really been able to go into any type of water at all. well, except to shower. but that's about it.
iii. things around his neck. since almost being choked, he hasn't been the same. he absolutely hates having anything on his neck. and he means anything.
THEIR SECRETS
i. being drowned. when he was eight, his mother "accidentally" drowned him while giving him a bath. a family friend came in while she was doing so. in the end, it led to him being held in foster care.
ii. being choked. at the age of seven, he was nearly choked to death by his mother. she claimed it was an accident, but he was still frightened by the accident.
iii. losing his virginity to a prostitute yes, it's something he dislikes about himself. but he was curious, and, well, a teenage boy. and he might have been trying to figure out his sexuality at that point as well.
iv. total whore but just looking for someone to love. though he sleeps around, a lot, and has a new person on his arm everyday, he just really wants to be loved by someone. and just wants that person to love him for who he is, and for him to love them back in return.
v. foster kid. he shouldn't be ashamed of it, but he is. therefore, he doesn't mention it to anyone. as far as anyone else knows jon and alex are his real parents. and his four sisters are his real ones. no one ever asks about it, so he think he's safe. but no really knows.
THEIR GOALS
i. get over his past. he's never mentioned his life before he was eight, not to anyone, but it still haunts him. and really, he just wants to finally get over what his mother had ever done to him.
ii. find his mother and father inside, he might claim to hate them, but really, he still loves them. just like any other kid would love their parent. and he just wants to find them again, and be able to talk to them once again.
iii. become successful part of his life goal is to become successful, to please with his parents. sure, they may not seem to want him anymore. it's just something that he's wants to do for them, to prove to them that he wasn't a mistake, and that he is ultimately "perfect."
iv. find love yeah, who doesn't? he won't admit it, but he wants someone there beside him, for better and for worse. he wants someone to accept him completely for who and what he is. all his flaws and everything. but he just might have to find someone he can trust enough with his secrets.
THEIR STRENGTHS
i. paying attention though it may not seem like it, benjamin does have a really good ability to pay attention to things when people talk to him. but he also happens to pay attention to little things, things that will make people tick or make them happy.
ii. outgoing he talks to everyone. and yes, everyone. he's loud a lot of the time, as well, and can draw a lot of attention to himself. he's definitely not the shy or quiet type (even if that happens to be the kind he's most attracted to). the boy really has not issues with being the center of attention, he'd just prefer it if it was the good type of attention though.
iii. music he thinks so at least. the boy has a voice on him, and he thinks it has definitely gotten him places. and he can only play about eight million instruments. both of these happen to make it to his top three things to use to impress someone.
iv. keeping a secret the boy has more than enough secrets up his little sleeves. when something is not wanted to be known to the public, he knows and usually doesn't let anything slip out of that big mouth of his. of course, being drunk doesn't exactly help in this department. but he's usually good. after all, he's hidden his past for the past thirteen years.
THEIR WEAKNESSES
i. a cute face he really, really, really, cannot say no to anyone with a cute face. yes, he will sleep with anyone that has one, no matter their personality. but really, if you have a cute, pretty face, he's most likely going to talk to you. that's how he's made most of his friends after all.
ii. alcohol and drugs two addictions he wished he didn't have. but they are the things that help him get buy. so when offered them, he really can't say no. they're his little getaways when music isn't an option. though they might be breaking him down more and more with each hit.
iii. chocolate random, but yes. he's a chocolate fiend. he would probably whore himself out for it. so that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but the boy might do anything for it. or just any type of candy come to think of it.
iv. paying attention. he has ADHD, need we say more? but yes, it's both a strength and a weakness. and he doesn't' ever take the medication he's supposed to. the bottles store up in his bathroom and he just pretends to take them. but when this little "disorder" kicks in full gear, there's usually no getting him back.
THEIR PERSONALITY
"the first thing you may notice about me,
i'm more hyper and energetic than i should be"
i'm more hyper and energetic than i should be"
mister nelkin over here has been said to have the energy of a two year old. most of this is from the fact that he has a case of attention deficit hyperactive disorder. basically meaning his attention span is smaller than a newborn and he can't sit still to save his fucking life. and for all the people who think that he shouldn't touch caffeine, well he'll let you know that the stuff actually calms him down more than it produces actual energy. 'cause, if you asked him, it has the opposite effect on him. but that's really just another story. this has always been the truth with him, ever since he was a little boy. but his biological mother had never medicated him or gave him something to calm him down. all she ever did was ignore him, or did something worse to him. in effect, this caused him to become more timid and shy. on the inside, the boy is really that way though. why doesn't it seem like it?
well, the boy puts on an act every day. he fakes smiles through his day and pretends that everything in his life is just absolutely fucking perfect. a natural born actor you could say. he has spent most of his time pretending like something bad has ever happened to him, pretending that everything is just fine. he's almost started to believe it. almost. until a gentle little reminder hits him. then things start to turn downhill from there. but usually, the boy is seen with a fake smile on his lips, a glint in his eyes, and something mischievous up his sleeve. he's loud, sometimes louder than loud, and almost demands that a spotlight to be on him. most of it is really just a cover up though. but he just wants people to like him, to make them laugh and make them happy.
"people sometimes get annoyed with me,
because i have a tendency to cling to them more than i should."
because i have a tendency to cling to them more than i should."
if his hyperactivity doesn't annoy you, then the way he clings to people just might. the boy has not concept of personal space and that sometimes progresses to his inability to understand "no." but it's not his fault. he's just affectionate. the boy likes to cuddle and hold hands for not reason at all. it's sort of a comfort for him. a way for him to make sure that things would be okay. though, he never says that to anyone. and if you tell him to back off, he most likely will. but of course not without his signature hurt puppy look. with, i might add, he doesn't always purposely do. it's a bit a habit, or just a natural relation for it.
a very few select people know this, but the human contact is a bit of a therapy for ben. instead of talking to someone when something is bothering him, he's more likely to cuddle with someone than actually talk to them. and if they ask questions, he's most likely to just ignore them and ask as if he's sleeping, or too into the movie if they're watching one. ben knows that this isn't the best thing for him when it comes with dealing with his problems. but, the thing is, he's not ready to confront them, not ready to admit that he has them. this lesson will only be accomplished when it comes to his breakdown. whenever that'll be.
but most of ben's clingy-ness and stability is driven by the fact that he is very much people-dependent. yeah, his acts may show off that he's an independent person, but he needs someone around for him to keep himself kept together. he can't stand being alone. his thoughts swarm in on him, and every good thing in his life goes downhill. this is why he's never really alone anywhere, why he never asks to be alone. but there will be a very rare chance that he'll ask for it. and that's a really bad sign.
"i'll be honest, someone had once compared
me to a pregnant woman because of my mood swings."
me to a pregnant woman because of my mood swings."
if you actually get past his obnoxiousness and his clingy-ness, you'll learn that benjamin sometimes has the worst of mood swings. he'll go from absolutely loving everything about himself, to hating himself because of one small flaw. this reaction isn't all that hard to trigger. it can be caused from a small comment such as "you're annoying" where he'll apologize repeatedly for, or someone talking about how much of a good person he is. honestly, the boy doesn't think that there is much to him. most of the time, all he really thinks is that he's just another pawn in some chess game god is playing with the devil.
but really, the boy can be your best friend and your worst enemy in one go. he can be the sweetest person on the planet, he really can. but the boy has a temper on him. most of the time, he's able to control it. but there have been a few times where it had been gotten out of control. these are times where he tries to keep himself away from people. he doesn't trust himself when he's angry. things can slip out, people could get hurt. this is why he avoids people. but it tends to take a lot to get him this way. a lot of criticism about his personality, or a lot of shit talking about those who he cares about. (though, most of the criticism on himself would most likely lead him into an inner depression.)
"not many people really know this, but
i'm really self conscious and more than a little confused."
i'm really self conscious and more than a little confused."
yeah, benjamin acts all big and tough, acts so sure of himself. but really, on the inside, the boy has no clue who he is. most of his life has been lead through him acting through everything. on the inside, benjamin nelkin is so much more complicated than most people think. as said before, he hates most of the things about himself, not that he let's himself show that. the only people who really know that are the ones who've figured it out. which is a very, very few people. inside the twenty-one year old, is still that eight year old boy who had gotten taken away from his mother. he still misses her, wishes that he had never been taken away. ...but he doesn't know if he could do it. after all, she had almost killed him on several occasions.
living his life through fake smiles and egoism has led to ben over thinking too much. yeah, sure, he acts like he doesn't think at all, but he really takes most of his acts into consideration before he does them. every word is carefully thought out before he says it. you would never know this though. it's not that he's a good actor or anything, it's just... that's how it's perceived. his whole life has been led on an act to become that one person everyone liked. and yeah, he's definitely found out that it was so much harder than it seemed to be. but he's trying to get by without doing that
but in all honestly, in a nut shell, benjamin is far too complicated for his own good.

HISTORY
"it started out with a kiss,
how did it end up like this?"
how did it end up like this?"
one night stands aren't an uncommon thing are they? drunken night rendezvous with no cares or worries. just remember that part when you wake up with a stranger in the middle of the night. and that stranger just happens to be the woman who's been stalking you for three months. yeah, that might just be a bad sign right there. but, a mister rodger winkler didn't think of it as that. it might have been that at his still young age of twenty three (and all the drugs he had taken at the time) that he was absolutely in love with miss elizabeth knight. needless to say that she was pleased with the news of this. and exactly one month from this encounter, they were pronounced mr. and mrs. rodger winkler. some eight to nine months after, a little baby boy was born to the still almost newlyweds. this baby boy, was named benjamin raine winkler.
friends of both the new parents, were concerned. all of it just seemed too quick and unplanned. they did fear for the child, but they never said anything. they gave off the ever so fake smiles and just continued on with their lives without worrying about them. and everything did seem to go well for the first year or two. it almost seemed like that they were the perfect couple, a "match made in heaven." but for whoever had ever said that, they were speaking just a little too soon. by the age ben turned two, the couple were fighting almost constantly. poor little ben was usually abandoned by one or the other on most nights, sometimes even both of them. but, of course, ben couldn't remember this. he was far too young, but the friends of the family were all aware of the events going on inside. elizabeth's mother often watched over the little boy, muttering little prayers at night and wishing him the best of luck.
they never split up though. they stayed together through most of their downfalls. and by the time ben turned four, things were good once again. the smiling, talkative boy look up to his parents with stars in his eyes. and both of his parents believed that they had the perfect little boy that they could have ever gotten. in preschool, he was ever so popular, and had a series of little "girlfriends." and things were just absolutely perfect. until one little accident at least.
on ben's fifth birthday, his mother was putting him to bed. he was curled up in her arms, even if he was just a little too big to do that now. it was a comfort for him, something that calmed him. to calm him from what? well, there wasn't really anything for him to be all worried up about. except for the fact that he always feared that his parents would just leave him while he was sleeping. it was sometimes easier for him to fall asleep beside one of them rather than alone. but anyway.
when elizabeth was putting ben into bed, she had dropped him. whether it was on purpose or accident, no one really knows. no one was there to watch it. but as ben fell from her arms, first hitting his head back against the edge of the night stand beside his bed, and then finally on the floor, all she did was stare at him. an expression of shock on her face. and she continued to just stand there and stare as the boy screamed, cried, and gripped onto the back of his bleeding head. rodger came rushing at the sound of his crying son.
two hours and twelve staples in his head later, rodger started question elizabeth about exactly had happened to their baby boy. she continued the story about how she accidentally dropped him. and it might be safe to say that this is where the trust issues officially started happening.
"whatever you want, you're so
fucking special, i wish i was special."
fucking special, i wish i was special."
since that one incident, benjamin hadn't exactly been right in the head. most of the time, he shied away from his mother. and he really tried hard to avoid her hurt looks but how could the boy trust her? though, he couldn't ever get away from her when his father had go go away for his job. but things never really got out of hand during the times. things were actually good.
though, you could say that by the time he was seven, things had changed. another incident came. this time, it had only been ben and his mother home alone. ben had been throwing a tantrum at a store because he couldn't get a toy that he "absolutely needed to get" cause.. you know, all the other kids had it. his mother wouldn't buy it for him. so he pouted and whined to his mother the whole time. until he realized that his mother wasn't going to buy it for him as they checked out of the store. from there, he just pouted from the checking out to the moment they got home. instead of ignoring him though, his mother yelled at him.
the sound filled through his ears, each word sting him and causing him to cringe. then somewhere between her screaming at him and his near death, she had wrapped her long fingers around his thin neck. he barely the time to think what was happening before he was struggling against her. but his strength and energy were soon growing short. by the time he could feel himself getting light-headed and dizzy, his mother had let go of the boy was stared at him. if
ben did have the ability to think, he probably wouldn't have known what to thought. not long after though, she did whatever she could to save him. most of it consisted of mouth-to-mouth and muttering "breathe, dammit, breathe."
fortunately, she was able to bring her son back to life. but neither one of them ever mentioned the scene to anyone else. even when his father questioned why ben kept himself in his room, or was only around when he was in the room. they both just claimed that he wasn't feeling good. but since his almost death, he had been quieter than normal, more careful than normal. it was abnormal for a child to be that way. most of the kids in his class were loud, and carefree.
some of his friends faded away from him, but he still managed to keep most of them. (it wasn't until later on in his life where he figured, he had an ability to act and he continued on with his life like he had once before: loud and carefree.)
things were fine, like they had been. he kept both of his parent's pleased with him. rarely did he ever pout or whine anymore, and he accepted things more easily than he ad. at nights though, he kept himself safe in his room. cartoons damaged his brain more than older siblings of his friends. it wasn't that he wasn't a sociable boy, he really was... he just didn't want to bring anyone home. he feared what his mother might do if he did. she had impulse attacks that couldn't really ever be predicted. and this could be said about the random beatings he would get whenever he walked in with his mother with another man. the site hurt him more than than her hits ever did.
by the time his eighth birthday came around, things were starting to appear to be normal once again. sure, his mother still messed around when his father was away. instead of going in and seeing what was going on, he remained in his room and pretended to be asleep. his father never expected a thing though. he just thought that everything was perfectly fine.
six months after his birthday, things had changed completely for the winkler family. a scene involving miss elizabeth giving ben a bath one night caused more of a disaster for the family. while trying to watch his hair, elizabeth had gotten frustrated with the boy and just pushed his head under the water. a family friend had walked in right when little benjamin, started flailing about in an attempted to raise back up. this may have gotten out of hand, and soon ben was being taken away from his mother by two unfamiliar men. he trashed about, trying to get away from them. but they really gave him no choice. he was being forced into a car as he listened to the very last words he'd ever hear his mother say: " no, don't take my perfect boy away!"
"the sound of your voice, painted on my memories,
even if you're not with me, i'm with you"
even if you're not with me, i'm with you"
not too long after he was taken away from his mother, he count himself in foster care. it was there he got himself a new family, and a new life. a week after a switch in family (and last name), he found himself in great barrington, vermont. it was a new environment for him, there was a bigger chance for him out here. or that's what he had been told at least. or something alone those lines at least. but he was only eight at the time, so it's excusable that he doesn't' remember the exact quoting. but it really isn't all that important.
opening up to his new family wasn't a hard thing to do. the first meeting, he had been a shy little thing. a week later, ended being the way he was so long ago. there was something the felt like he could trust in with this family. and he just might have like the little fat that he actually had "siblings" now. this meant that he was no longer all alone with an adult. he had other people he could harass, and the fact that they easily accepted his constant pleads to cuddle didn't help much.
but you could really say that life for mister nelkin had improved drastically. there was no more pain, no more cuts and bruises scarring over his skin. he started attending public school in the city and found himself with a lot more friends then he previously had. though, the little eight year old was forcing himself to be more social. some of the friends continued on with him until graduation day, but most of them changed from year to year. sometimes month to month. but ben never really got too close with anyone, not too close anyway. no one ever knew about his past. he never let the things slip through his lips, and he's never told anyone that he was a foster child. though, some people might be able to guess this by looking at his "parents" and then looking at him. but he doesn't want to admit that she was taken away, admit that his mother abused him or almost killed him. he doesn't want to admit that he has those problems. after all, all he had ever wanted was to just be normal, perfect.
growing up, benjamin didn't exactly live like most of the other kids. there had always been something different about him. there had been times were he was too reserved or too outgoing. but the boy, well, he had a lot going on in that big head of his. whether he choice to accept it or not, it was something that he always ignored. but that sometimes caused him to do the exact opposite of what he really wanted to do: please people and have them like him. between his somewhat bipolarity with mood swings and all of that, and his whole coming out of the closet thing, well, those types of thing ever really settle well with most people. but he was thankful that he at least had an accepting family. but he tried to no let the "haters" bother him too much. after all, it wasn't like he could exactly take it all back now
his first boyfriend during his sophomore year of high school had been a real ass. though, if you had asked the boy, ben had been an ass too. but he had reasons for the way he was. but through all the battles that they had been through, the relationship had never really lasted. especially after the boy had announced that he was in love with ben. this freaked him out, scared him. and all he had to say to that was nothing. instead of b reasonable, the boy ran from the other and never talked to him again. and from there, he did seem to make a mess of most of his other friendships. but come graduation day, he was glad that he was getting away from most of those faces. and with the goal to become acquainted with a whole new scene of faces, benjamin nelkin packed his bags and headed to southern vermont college for a "new life," which rewally wasn't to much different from the one he had then.
"these kids learn from cigarette
burns, fast cars, fast women and cheap drinks."
burns, fast cars, fast women and cheap drinks."
honestly, ben did enjoy the college life, and the campus and the classes. it was here where he first started drinking and smoking. it was here where he mostly found his way out of the memories of his past. but really, the college thing, it just wasn't for him. the teachers and everything were amazing, but it wasn't for him. he needed to go out and do something with himself instead of just sitting there in a classroom. yeah, he would have loved to continue on with the music major and do something with this life. after the first semester though, ben dropped out of the school.
from there he got himself a job at a small record shop. hey, it as better than nothing. and really, he avoided talking to either jon or alex. he knew well enough that they were disappointed in him. he didn't need to hear that. so he got himself a job, and an apartment, and set up his own life. he still talked to his sister though, how could he not? they had always been there for him, just like he had been for them. and he only talked to his parents when it was necessarily. like at sunday dinners.
some point during this time, he found himself a spot in a band. an actual band, could you believe it? and yeah, he might have been a little bit more than excited, so what? this had been something he always wanted! so being a singer in a band wasn't all that bad. and he sometimes would show off by playing all the different instruments. ben just got a little too excited at times. and this whole band thing, it might have been another reason he dropped out of college as well.
and that, my friends, is how benjamin nelkin came to where he is now.

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE[/ul]
IT'S HARD TO BE THE BETTER MAN
- - - - - - - -when you forget you're trying
as one of those people who completely went against normality. that's what his father had once said to him. or... he thought it was his father. it could have been someone else. names and faces where all too easily mixed in together and being replaced with one another. it was idiotic, ridiculous even, but that's just the way aaron's mind happened to work. or something like that. you know, come to think of it, he wasn't exactly sure how it was that his mind worked. there had always just been a little something off with it. something that made him stick out from most people. or maybe that was just the drugs talking. yeah.. nineteen years old and already addicted to several drugs, not including alcohol. he was a mess, a hot mess. and you can probably take that in as many possible ways as you'd like. but at this time, this place, aaron didn't give a fuck about anything. he was free and flying high. soaring like a bird, or kite. you choose.AARON TURNER COULD BE DESCRIBED
and it wasn't exactly drugs that he was on. not this early at least. rolling out of bed, he was wearing a lazy smile... and that was it. it wasn't the first time he would have rolled out of a bed, bunk, whatever, and appeared to be completely nude. (most people who knew aaron, knew that he had a tendency to strip at some point during the night. and sometimes - most of the time - fuck the closest thing to him. also, he could recall a distant memory in which he woke up wearing nothing but his birthday suit on someone's porch. but he was comfortable with himself, and that's all that mattered... right?) stumbling, tripping several times, he made his over to the bus' smaller than small "bathroom." and really, he looked like a mess. dark, dark brown curls piled up on his head in various different directions; frizz accompanied those curls. his brown eyes were bloodshot, tired. the iris' lined with black from his recent lack of sleep. there was a bit of dried drool on the corner of his mouth before the wiped it out. and that was about as much as he did before he proceeded to do his "business."
not long later he was finally dressed. mostly his outfit consisted of some random clothing he found lying around. for example, his jeans were found at the bottom of his bunk, underwear were in his suitcase, light blue shirt was on the floor and the flannel was on the couch in the back lobby area. whether they were clean or not, he didn't know, nor did he care. was it sad that it was only the beginning of the tour and everything he brought along was all over the place? oh well. the thought never really grabbed a hold of him that much. instead he just continued on and sprayed himself with a bit of cologne that was on the counter. though, it did make him sneeze a few times. oh fucking well. he was too tired to really care. too far away from the planet. now, was this sad that he hadn't even touched a drug and people could possibly say he was on them? maybe his body was used to the abuse from them, leaving him in a permanent high. or maybe there was just no different. or maybe he was just too exhausted. who knew. it didn't matter. it wasn't something that concerned him in the slightest.
without as so much as a goodbye to his other band mates, he had left the bus. after finding a pair of white nikes and his white glasses. a wince fell from his lips at the bright, bright light and a groan slipped through his lips. it was far, far too early for this. seriously sun, could you bring the brightness down a few levels? while his eyes grew used to the lighting, he walked away from the bus. at some point, a yawn slipped through his lips while he looked around the area where he managed to walk to. and... yeah.. he had no clue where the hell he was. was this something new? absolutely not. but oh well. there would be a way for him to get back to the bus if he needed to be. or so he hoped.
not too long after figuring he was lost, he did find one place that seemed familiar. a starbucks. yeah, the male definitely did not need any caffeine, or any other beverage that would simulate him. or whatever that word was. but hey, what would it hurt if he did? people would only have to deal with him jumping off the walls... and he already that without the help of coffee. though, upon entering the story, he was just a little distracted from his purpose of coming in by a flash of red hair. a flash of red hair attached to a familiar face. a grin broke out on his face at the site of the boy. (though it might have been a bit weird since the boy's hair wasn't that red. but whatever. he could just pass it off as him just looking around the place and spotting him.)
instead of going to order himself a coffee, or whatever it was that he was going to get, he headed over to the boy. and there was still that grin on his face. now, he had heard a few things once upon a time (try the other night) that someone was saying that he had a thing for the boy. he really didn't. yeah, the boy was cute and he would probably (most likely) hook up with him in the opportunity arrived. but he was just like that with about 87% of the population. gavin was definitely not exception. the boy just liked to tease him. especially after finding how shy he was. yeah, aaron could be a bit of an asshole from time to time, but that's just the way he was. "hey gavin," he said, maybe just a little bit too loud. but aaron didn't have a concept for quiet. the nineteen year old slid into a seat besides him, grin still on his face. brown eyes looked at the other through the transparent lens of his glasses. "how are we on this absolutely fantastic morning?"
